I-Cup Football: Dhaka Abahani drop points again

Dhaka  – Dhaka Abahani Ltd dropped important points again in the Group B of the KFC Independence Cup Football after playing 2-2 draw with Rahmatganj MFS at the Bangabandhu National  Stadium here on Wednesday.After the 2nd consecutive draw in their four group matches, the semifinal berth of Dhaka Abahani has become uncertain as they bagged six points from four matches and will play group leader Sheikh Russel  KC in the remaining match on Saturday. Rahmatganj MFS have secured five points from all the five group matches.Irish forward Rohan Ricketts put Abahani ahead in the 6th minute by a placing shot, capitalising on a pass from Senegalese forward Camara  Sarra (1-0).Congolese forward Siyo Zunapio leveled the margin for Rahmatganj MFS in the 31st minute by a good header, utilising a curved cross of midfielder Faisal Ahmed from the right flank (1-1).Rahmatganj took the lead in the 71st minute as their unmarked forward Nurul Absar fired the Abahani net by a placing shot over onrushing  Abahani goalie Sultan Ahmed Shakil (2-1).Camara Sarra scored a face-saving equaliser for Abahani Limited in the 85th minute by a rebounder when an attempt of his Nigerian teammate Sunday Chizoba came his way from Rahmatganj goalie Masum (2-2).Earlier, Abahani were unfortunate in the very 2nd minute as a shot of their Irish midfielder Rohan Rickett’s hit the sidepost, off a cut back of midfielder Sohel Rana from the right.In the 3rd minute, Rahmatganj Congolese forward Siyo Zunapio’s shot was saved by Abahni custodian Sultan Ahmed Shakil having one on one situation.Rahmatganj came close to score in the 33rd minute, but a good shot of their forward Siyo Zunapio went over the crosspiece despite of open net, off a Nurul Absar pass from the right flank.Abahani managed another good chance in the 49th minute but Jewel Rana’ s placing shot over the onrushing goalie Samiul Islam Masum, cleared by defender Rahmatganj defender Alauddin.
