IAB for Army deployment, non-use of EVM in polls

Islami Andolan Bangladesh has demanded deployment of Army during the forthcoming national election. The party has also given its opinion against the use of the electronic voting machine (EVM) at a dialogue with the election commission on Sunday.An 11-member delegation of IAB headed by its Presidium member Syed Moulana Mosaddeq Billah Al-Madani which too part in the dialogue placed a 15-point charter of demands and said that the people do not want to see a January-5 type election. IAB said the Election Commission should be brought to legal control in case of failure to hold free and fair elections.
After the dialogue Moulana Madani told journalists that IAB suggested the enectment of laws to regulate the Election Commission in case it is found responsible for holding partisan elections. The party also demanded the creation of an election atmosphere under an interim neutral government after the dissolution of Parliament.
IAB said during national election matters like deployment of the army, the ministries of Home Affairs, Public Administration and Local Government should remain under the EC for securing free and fair voting.
The dialogue, presided over by Chief Election Commissioner AKM Nurul Huda, was attended by IAB leaders Principal Moulana Yunus Ahmad, Moulana ATM Hemayetuddin, Prof. Mahbubur Rahman, Engineer Ashraful Alam, KM Atiqur Rahman, Ahmed Abdul Qayyum, advisers Ashraf Ali Akon and Sheikh Atiar Rahman among others. – Press release
