Disappointed at the reply to the contempt of court charge submitted by David Bergman, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Thursday further asked him to explain properly his stance releasing ‘contemptuous’ writings and ‘distorted’ judicial order of the tribunal in his personal blog. Passing the order, the three-member-tribunal, headed by Justice Obaidul Hassan, asked Bergman, a British-origin journalist working at the local national daily New Age, to reply to the rule within a fortnight, fixing May 11 for the next hearing. Responding to a contempt petition, filed by a little known lawyer, the tribunal on February 20 issued a contempt rule upon Bergman to come up with his explanation before it over his stance, questioning the tribunal’s observation on 3 million martyrs during the 1971 Liberation War, as Bergman terms it wrong in his blog. Barrister Mustafizur Rahman Khan appeared for contemnor Bergman. Earlier, on February 19, 2012, the tribunal that deals with the 1971 crimes against humanity disposed of its suo moto contempt-of-court charge for publishing contemptuous article over the tribunal by David Bergman exonerating him from the charge and giving serious caution to be more careful in the future. – UNB
