I’m not sick, confined for arrest: Ershad

Dhaka – Sticking to his guns to boycott polls, Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman HM Ershad on Friday claimed that ‘he is not sick’ rather he has been ‘confined’ to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for ‘arrest’.“I’m not sick. I’ve been confined for arrest. Jatiya Party won’t take part in any election without the participation of all parties. Already, our party candidates have withdrawn their candidatures,” Ershad’s special adviser Bobby Hajjaj said quoting Ershad as saying.
Bobby Hajjaj claimed that Ershad conveyed it to him through a special message in the afternoon.
Quoting Ershad, he also said Ershad did not appoint anybody as his spokesperson and warned that he can take action anybody who will violate party discipline.
“I haven’t appointed anybody as my spokesperson. I’ve heard a leader (Mujibul Haque Chunnu) is giving statement as party spokesman. If he does it, it’s his own responsibility. It’ll be considered as his own opinion.”
The former President also ‘condemned’ his ‘confinement’ in the name of treatment, said the special adviser.
Bobby Hajjaj, in a media release in a pad of ‘Jatiya party Research and Strategy Wing, also quoted Ershad saying that party secretary general Ruhul Amin Howlader and Presidium Member GM Quader would convey the messages of Ershad to party leaders and activists while Ershad will convey his messages through Bobby Hajjaj.
The special adviser also said Ershad has taken the decision for the sake of continuation of democratic progress. – UNB
