Dhaka, Sept 20 – Bangladesh’s prominent news channels Independent Television is going to air a quiz show titled ‘Bangladesh Jiggasha’ on the topics of the achievements, successes and failures of 47 years of Bangladesh since independence. If you know Bangladesh better, it is possible for you to be the champion at the quiz which is going to set to air at 10 pm on every Friday and Saturday from October 12, the organisers said.
The main attraction of the show would be the hefty prize money of Tk 1.77 crore for the participants. The contestants will not miss the prize money as there will have a bounty of prizes from the first round
to the final.
The champion of the quiz would get one crore taka while the first runner-up will get Tk 25 lakh. In addition to it, the second and the third runners-up will get Tk 15 lakh and Tk 5 lakh respectively.
Each semi-finalist will get Tk 2 lakh and each quarter finalist Tk 1 lakh. Second round qualifiers will get Tk 50,000 each and first round qualifiers Tk 25,000 each.
Besides, the organisers have their arrangement of attractive prizes for the participating spectators at the show.
The announcement was jointly made by M Shamsur Rahman, CEO and editor-in-chief of Independent Television and Shah Alam Sarwar, managing director and CEO of IFIC Bank, sponsor of the show, at a press conference at the office of Independent Television in the capital.
Among others, Shah Md Moinuddin, deputy managing director and head of business of IFIC Bank and Khaled Muhiuddin, executive editor of Independent Television, were also present at the press conference.
Before taking part in the show, the participants have to go through an online registration procedure. Any Bangladeshi citizen minimum 18 years and above and has a National Identity (NID) card can contest the quiz.
The registration will be between September 19 and 10 pm on September 27 on the web address www.bangladeshjiggasha.com. The registration can be done by logging in the official web page of Independent Television www.independent24.com and its facebook page www.facebook.com/IndependentTVNews.
The registered participants will only get the opportunity to take part in an online test on September 28, 29 and 30. Registered candidates can log in and have to complete the exam within the time limit. One
participant cannot register more than once. The schedule of the online competition will be announced via the news and social media.
In the next step, candidates accomplishing the online round will qualify for the divisional round of the quiz. A written test will be held at the divisional level simultaneously in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur.
A total of 64 contestants, eight from eight divisions, will be the luckiest persons for qualifying ‘Bangladesh Jiggasha’ stage.
About the show, M Shamsur Rahman said, “We had a long desire to air a direct quiz show on the television. It was a big challenge to ensure the participation of all and to create a platform for it. Independent Television has accepted the challenge and IFIC Bank is standing beside us.”
“It would be the first ever quiz competition in Bangladesh to be aired on the television. The champion will get Tk 1 crore. Besides, the second and third runners-up will receive Tk15 lakh and Tk 5 lakh. All
participants will get a total of Tk 1.77 crore in the competition,” he added.
Wishing a success of the quiz show, Shah Alam Sarwar said Independent Television is going to air a quiz competition which will draw much response and create interest among people.
“IFIC Bank is always engaged in any good work. It provides a literary award to encourage creative writing in Bangla language and literature.
Like it, the quiz competition will create inquisitiveness and interests among the common people to know various matters and information. It will create an environment among the whole nation to exercise knowledge and information,” he added.
In reply to a query, Khaled Muhiuddin said, “There will be a set of questions of 50 marks for the division level written examination. The questions will be same and the exams will be held at the same time. We
will set eight machines in eight divisions to evaluate the answers and to select the 64 contestants.”
He said, “All questions will be subject to Bangladesh affairs only. The questions will be set from its success, achievement, development, future demand, international recognition, sports, our interests and so on.
“If you know Bangladesh better including its current activities, it is possible for you to be the champion,” he added.
In reply to a query, he said, “The questions for the preliminary selection by online exam will not be difficult. It would be easy. We are doing it by considering the internet speed and other things.”
Asked about any possibility of question paper leak, he said, “We have made a standard operating procedure in the association with IFIC Bank that knows how to maintain secrecy. We can assure there will be no chance for question leak.”
He also said Independent Television and its first family and IFIC Bank and its first family are not allowed to take part in the competition.
