The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday put Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddique on a three-day police remand in a case filed with Dhamrai Police Station of the district under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.Earlier, Sub-Inspector Md Nazmul Haque, produced Irad to the court seeking a seven-day remand to quiz him in connection with the case that was lodged for giving a facebook book status saying, balance of power and democracy can not be established again without killing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Besides, he made comments in the facebook, defaming Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
After hearing, Senior Judicial Magistrate Afsana Abedin granted the 3-day remand. Additional Public Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul and Court Public Inspector Asaduzzaman appealed to the court seeking the remand.
On February 23, he was placed on a four-day remand in another case filed Kotwali Police Station of the city and later he was sent to the jail. Irad has been facing five other cases in connection with the same allegation. Of the five, one was filed with Kotwali Police Station of Dhaka, two with the CMM Court of Dhaka, and one each with two courts of Gazipur and Bagura in October of last year in a case lodged under the ICT Act.
Irad, son of former BNP Standing Committee Member Chowdhury Tanveer Ahmed Siddique, was arrested near the Shahjalal Intesrnational Airport area of the capital on February 23. – Special Correspondent
