Dhaka, Jan 14 – The body of a private university student was recovered from inside a flat in the city’s Adabar area on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Shihabul Islam Shihab, 22, a BBA final year student of Independent University of Bangladesh.According to police, his body bore injury marks inflicted by a sharp weapon around the throat.
Shihab used to reside with his parents in an apartment on the Pisciculture Road of Adabar. But he used to live in a separate room of the flat where other family members were reportedly not allowed in, said Sub-inspector (SI) Ranjit Sarker.
Shihab’s family members had gone to their village home in Madaripur on January 11, and returned on Friday night, the 13th.
Getting no response from Shihab on Saturday morning, family members informed the Adabar police station. Police went to the spot and recovered the body after breaking the door lock around 11:30 am, said SI Ranjit.
SI Ranjit further revealed Shihab was drug-addicted, and it remained unclear whether it was a suicide or homicide.
Either way, it most likely occurred some time after January 11, as all of the other family members went to their village home in Madaripur district, SI Ranjit said.
The body was decomposed and it was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue Saturday evening for postmortem. – UNB
