Jamaat called 48-hour hartal observing loosely in Barisal

The 48-hour strike called by Jammat E Islami Bangladesh protesting confirming death sentence for war crimes against JIB assistant secretary general Kamaruzzaman by Supreme Court, observing loosely in Barisal on Tuesday without hampering daily life.
Big show rooms, shopping centers, markets were closed and financial institutions functioned closing front doors due to strike.Transactions in financial institutions, market, attendances in educational institutions, judicial,administrative offices were less than normal days in Barisal on Tuesday.JIB activists brought out stray procession, picketing and held short rallies calling to make strike successful at C and B, Nabagram Road, Kawnia and Kashipur areas of the city on Tuesday early hours and morning.The JIB activists rejecting the verdict called it ‘ judicial killing’ demanding that Kamaruzzaman was innocent and not a war criminal as he was a school student during liberation war.Road and water transportations on short and internal routes functioned with less numbers of transports on Tuesday. Road transports on long routes also operated with less number of passengers on Tuesday, Aftab Hossain, president of bus owners association and city Sramik League, informed.Law enforcing agencies patrolling on city roads to control any situation, told Shoibal Kanti Chowdhury, commissioner Barisal Metropolitan Police. Azad Rahman, assistant commissioner and spokesman of Barisal Metropolitan Police, said none was arrested and no case was lodged in connection of strike on till this report at four police stations under BMP.Barisal Correspondent
