Jamaat-cops clash injures 10 in city

DHAKA:  At least 10 people including cops were injured in a clash between law enforcers and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student affiliate Chhatra Shibir in city’s Elephant road area on Wednesday morning.
Witnesses said the clash ensued when the Jamaat-Shibir men, from a protest procession, hurled brick chips at the law enforcers who resistred their procession at around 9:00am.
At one stage of chase by police, they vandalised a couple of vehicles.
Later, police fired rubber bullets and tear shell canister to disperse them.
Jamaat-e-Islami declared countrywide protest programme for Wednesday protesting the dropping of convicted Jamaat leader from voter list.
As part of centrally declared proggremmes, the Dhaka city unit og Jamaat brought out the protest procession at Elephant Road in the capital.
Meanwhile, Police arrested the Secretary of district unit Jamaat-e-Islami Professor Md. Ramjan Ali from the district town’s residence early Wednesday.
Confirming the news Sub-Inspector of Kishorganj Model police station Nurul Huda said that the Jamaat leader was arrested in several cases filed against him. He will be sent to the court as soon as possible, the SI added – banglanews24.com
