Jamaat demo against move for ‘one-party election’

Dhaka – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Sunday staged demonstration in
the city and elsewhere in the country protesting what it called
“conspiracy to hold one-party farcical election” and demanding the
release of 18-party leaders including top Jamaat leaders.
In Dhaka, Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists brought out separate
processions from Mirpur section number 11 and Mohammapur bus stand.
Police attacked on Jamaat-Shibir activists while they were trying to
bring out processions in Dhaka, Naryanganj and Chittagong, according
to a press release.
Jamaat-Shibir leaders condemned and protested the police attack what
they said on their peaceful procession on Sunday.
Acting Secretary General of Jamaat Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan in a
statement alleged that the government has been hatching conspiracy to
hold one-party farcical election.
He called upon the government to refrain from carrying out repression
on opposition leaders and activists and demanded restoration of
caretaker government to oversee the next general election.
Chhatra Shibir secretary general Abdul Jabbar in a statement claimed
that police charged batons, lobbed teargas shells and opened fire on
Jamaat-Shibir activists while they tried to bring out procession in
Dhaka, Narayanganj and Chittagong leaving 20 people injured. – Staff
