Jamaat-e-Islami has denied its involvement in the allegations brought against it by investigation team of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
“Jamaat has no relation with the seven allegations which were brought against it in the investigation report. The allegations are false, fabricated and motivated,” said a statement issued by Jamaat on Tuesday.
The statement jointly signed by party acting ameer Makbul Ahmad and acting secretary general Dr Shafiqur Rahman said the “baseless” allegations were brought against Jamaat for political vengeance.They said the investigation team loyal to the ruling party has submitted the baseless and imaginary investigation report to the chief prosecutor.
The Jamaat leaders termed the demand of the investigation team to ban publication of Dainik Sangram for its involvement with anti-liberation forces part of the government move to resist freedom of press.
The investigators on Tuesday sought ban of Jamaat and its associate bodies saying there are evidence of their involvement in the 1971 crimes.
The Jamaat leaders said they would peacefully and democratically face what they said all the government conspiracies against the party legally and politically taking people with them.
They said doing politics is the constitutional rights of every citizen and none has the rights to interfere in it.
The people has the rights to give final verdict as to which party can do politics and they did not give this responsibility to any government or any party, said the statement.
The Jamaat leaders alleged that the government has been carrying out farcical trials by implicating party top leaders including party ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami in “false cases” in connection with war crimes to free Jamaat from leadership.
They also accused the government of killing and disappearing of party leaders and activists and carrying out harassment to them.
The Jamaat leaders also alleged that the government became jealous as the people landed their massive support to party candidates in the upazila polls. – Staff Reporter
