Jamaat observes half-day hartal in C’nawabganj

The half-day hartal, enforced by Jamaat-e-Islami protesting the arrest of Sadar upazila chairman and Jamaat leader Mokhlesur Rahman, was progressing  peacefully in the district on Wednesday.
Pickets vandalised a BRTC bus at Bailtala in Shibganj upazila in the morning.
A group of activists of Jamaat and its student body Islami Chhatra Shibir brought out a procession in support of the shutdown in different points of the district town. Shibir activists blocked the road in Shibtala area by torching tyre and later fled the scene as police chased them.
No long-route bus left or entered the district while rickshaws were seen plying the town roads.
Most of the business establishments kept their shutters down.
Law enforcers took position at the important points of the district to avoid any untoward incident.
Police arrested Jamaat leader Mokhlesur Rahman from in front of Rajshahi Shilpakola Academy while he was going towards the upazila parished to take oath as newly elected upazila chairman on Tuesday morning. – UNB
