Jamaat-Shibir’s violence in Gaibandha after Mollah’s execution

– Jamaat-Shibir activists went on rampage, vandalizing and torching vehicles and business establishments at Palashbari upazila town here on Thursday night following the execution of their leader Abdul Quader Mollah.

Eye witnesses said the leaders and the workers of Jamaat-Shibir took their position on Rangpur-Bogra Highway from Brac intersection to Proshika one in the upazila town at 10.30 pm shortly after the execution of their leader Abdul Quader Molla and continued destructive activities for two hours till 12.30 am.

At first, the Jamaat-Shibir men attacked the office of Roads and Highways Department near the highway and set fire to a pajero jeep parked on the premises of the office at 11 pm.

hen, they attacked a furniture shop of AL supporter Harun Miah and set ablaze its valuables after bringing out those on the highway.

Besides, they also vandalized the Anika Fish Hatcheries owned by Mizanur Rahman Kazol, former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League of upazila unit, and set fire to the firm.

Apart from this, the activists put a barricade on the highway with wood logs and trees after cutting those from both sides of the highway.

Earlier, the activists torched the house of a journalist of Bangla daily Juger Alo and president of Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Inu), upazila unit, Nuruzzaman Prodhan at upazila gate area of the town at 7 pm hours after the review petition on execution

of Abdul Quader Mollah was dismissed by the apex court.

Officer in charge of Palashbari thana Nasir Uddin Mondal said additional law enforcers including police, RAB and BGB were deployed in the upazila town to check any sabotage by Jamaat-Shibir activists. –BSS, Gaibandha
