Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has deferred its Tuesday’s countrywide demonstrations to Wednesday due to holy Shab-e-Meraj. In a statement on Sunday, Jamaat acting secretary general Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “A countrywide peaceful demonstration programme had been announced for Tuesday on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to protest serious slide in law and order situation, including killings, enforced disappearances and abduction across the country and the miserable failure of the isolated government to prevent road and waterway accidents.” He further said, “I urge all the party units to observe the peaceful demonstrations on Wednesday instead of Tuesday as the holy Shab-e-Meraj will be observe on the day.” Shafiqur Rahman called upon the party followers to observe the Shab-e-Meraj on Tuesday through discussion meetings and milad mahfils. – UNB
