Jatiya Oikya Front to unveil its candidates in 300 seats Friday

Dhaka, Dec 6 – The opposition electoral alliance Jatiya Oikyafront will disclose names of its candidates for all the 300 constituencies across the country at 3:00 pm Friday. The decision was taken at a meeting of the steering committee at Dr Kamal Hossain’s chamber in Motijheel yesterday, according to meeting sources.
The meeting began at 44:00 postponed Oikyafront’s December 10 scheduled public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan hours after the announcement.
The Oikyafront also decided to declare its manifesto on December 17 ahead of the 11th parliamentary elections slated for December 30.
“We have wanted to hold a public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan on December 10. It is now being held for the time being. However, we will announce the election manifesto of the Oikyafront of December 17,” said Oikyafront spokesperson and BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters after the meeting.
Earlier in the morning, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that they would hold a public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan on December 10. He further said that they have written letters to the authorities concerned for permission.
Oikyafront sources said the meeting discussed seat sharing, election campaigns and election related issues.
A senior Oikyafront leader preferring anonymity said the BNP, the major partners in the alliance, is likely to share 15 to 20 seats among the other partners-Gano Forum, JSD, Nagorik Oikya and Krishak Sramik Janata League.
He said the BNP is likely to announce its candidate before announcing the Oikyafront andidates. – Staff Reporter
