JCD calls 2-day strike at DU from Wednesday

Pro-BNP Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Monday called a strike at Dhaka University for Wednesday and Thursday demanding that a congenial atmosphere for political coexistence on the campus be ensured.
JCD President Rajib Ahsan and General Secretary Akramul Hasan announced the strike through a press release.
They said the strike is also meant for putting an end to repression on their leaders and activists and general students.The JCD leaders also threatened that they will go for an indefinite student strike at the premier public university if the authorities fail to meet their demands by the time.
They alleged that over 50 meritorious students were killed in infightings of the ruling party’s student body Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at different educational institutions over the last six years.
Rajib and Akram alleged that the BCL men are forcing the general students at the university to join their political programme. “Even, they’re torturing the general students over trivial matters.”
They alleged that the BCL has snatched their political rights on the campus over the last six years. “Over 500 JCD leaders and activist were subjected to torture during the period. Many of them were made crippled.”
The JCD leaders demanded that the university authorities take proper steps to put an end to repression on the DU campus. – UNB
