Jica to continue dev projects in BD despite Gulshan killings

Dhaka – Despite the killing of seven JICA officials in Gulshan attack in July 1, its chief as recommitted to continue development projects in Bangladesh.
Out going JICA chief Mikio Hateda in a letter committed to remain and continue with Bangladesh.In his letter in last week he said “we at JICA nonetheless, remaining firmly committed to contributing to the development of Bangladesh.
He also said that it was enormous pleasure for him to expand their development cooperation to Bangladesh under Japan- Bangladesh comprehensive partnership that was agreed in the bi lateral summit meeting held in Tokyo and Dhaka in 2014.
On the other hand, it was extremely regrettable that seven Japanese nationals were killed and injured all of whom were engaged in survey work for JICA, in a barbaric terrorist attack in Gulshan on July 1.
Earlier in July, JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka in a statement said “We at JICA will continue giving top priority to the safety of JICA-related personnel and thoroughly assessing the situation on the ground in the places where we do our work.”
“We remain firmly committed to contributing to the development of Bangladesh,” he said.
All of them were consultants engaged in survey work on the proposed Dhaka Metrorail project on behalf of JICA.
Kitaoka said that JICA will be continue giving top priority to the safety of JICA-related personnel.
Meanwhile Japan withdrew its security alert issued for its citizens in Bangladesh following the Holey Artisan Bakery terrorist attack on July 1, 2016.
Bangladesh has strengthened for the citizens of Japan to work in Bangladesh. They feel reassured after learning of the initiatives to strengthen security.
According to officials of Economic Relation Division (Japan wing) -there will be no lack of security for Japanese citizens in Bangladesh. – Staff Reporter
