The BNP is concerned over snatching of three convicted Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) militants from a police prison van at Trishal in Mymensingh.
Standing Committee member Rafiqul Islam Miah, speaking at a discussion at the National Press Club on Sunday, also demanded arrest of the fugitives in 12 hours.
He said the snatching of JMB militants and fleeing of four accused in Jahangirnagar University student Zubair Ahmed murder case in two separate incidents exposed the deterioration in law and order.Radicals belonging to the outlawed JMB snatched away their three comrades at Trishal Upazila on Sunday as they were being transported in a prison van from Kashimpur jail to a court in Mymensingh.
The same day four accused in Zubair murder case– all pro-government Bangladesh Chhatra League activists – fled the court understanding that they will be refused bail.
The BNP leader said: “Such a situation constitutes a threat to country’s sovereignty and rule of law.”
Police have already caught one of the three snatched JMB men – Hafez Mahmud alias Raqib Hasan, 35 – at Tangail. The two others are Jahidul Islam alias Bomaru Mizan, 38, and Salauddin Salehin Alias Sunny, 38. – bdnews24.com
