Journalists declare Rony persona non-grata

Journalists in Barisal on Tuesday announced ruling Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony as persona non-grata in the region, demanded his arrest and expulsion from parliament for assaulting two journalists of the private television channel, Independent TV. They also took decision not to cover any positive news of MP Rony and urged all electronic and print media to boycott him in the TV talk shows and print-media.They also threatened to organize an intensive movement if the lawmaker is not arrested soon.The journalists made the demand at a human chain formed in front of Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall organised by Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Parishad, an organisation on local and regional newspapers.The programme was presided over by Kazi Abul Kalam Azad, editor daily Shah Nama, secretary general of the parishad.Among others, Advocate Manabendra Batobayal, Nurul Alam Farid, president and former president Barisal Press Club, Nazrul Islam, secretary Barisal Reporters Unity, bureau chief daily Amar Desh, G M Babar Ali, bureau chief daily Amar Desh, Saifur Rahman Miron, bureau chief Prothom Alo, Nomanur Rashid Nomani of daily Shahnama, Mir Muniruzzaman, editor daily Satya Sangbad.A procession later brought out and moved on city main roads chanting slogans against Rony. – Our Correspondent’
