Sahela Bibi (70), met a tragic end and properties worth Tk.3 lakh were gutted when the house of her son-in-law Sultan Howladar of village Gazalia under Morrelganj Upazila in the district caught fire in the early hours of Friday.It is learnt from the locals and eyewitnesses that it was scheduled that the marriage of a daughter of Sultan Howladar, a retired postmaster would be held on Friday and preparations were going in the house to make it success. Different kinds of delicious cakes were being prepared on Thursday at night. But in the early hours ( at about 1 am) of Friday a fire originated from a burning oven in a kitchen spread to the adjacent dwelling house of Sultan Hawldar and within moments it went out of control. On seeing the flame of fire and on hearing hue and cry of the inmates the neighbouring people and the villagers rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for about 2 hours All the inmates who were in the house came out from it, but ill-fated Sahela Begum who could come out from the house was roasted alive and properties including the materials purchased for the marriage purpose were brunt to ashes.
