JP dissidents stage demo for reinstating GM Quader

Dhaka, April 03 – Leaders and activists of ‘Jatiya Party Oikya Jote’ on Wednesday staged a demonstration demanding the reinstatement of Golam Mohammed Quader (GM Quader) as Jatiya Party (JP) Co-Chairman and also deputy leader of the opposition in Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament).
They made a human Chain in front of national press club in the capital and demanded GM Quader’s restoration.
Shafiullah Shafi, President of Jatiya Party Oikya Jote said, “during Jatyio Party’s tough time-when Hussain Muhammad Ershad (HM Ershad) was incarcerated following the end of his tenure-GM Quader resigned his job and joined the party’s rank and file to start a movement for freeing Ershad. He started his political career in such manner.”
He said, “Quader with some of the most meritorious, hard working and strong JP leaders have started constructive politics. But because of some conspiracy plotted by some handful of leaders, he was removed from his post.”
“In order to organize the Jatiya Party, through the dynamic and healthy trend of democratic practice, to take the JP again in power, there is no alternative of GM Quader in the absence of Ershad. So, let him restore in his position,” he urged.
Various leaders and activists of Jatiya Party Oikya Jote were present in the human chain.
Earlier, Ershad sacked GM Quader from the position of JP Co-Chairman on March 22. He also removed him as the deputy leader of the opposition in Parliament and inducted his wife Raushan Ershad as the
new deputy leader of the opposition.
After the removal of GM Quader from the party posts, unrest has been brewing in the party. Several leaders including Rangpur City Corporation Mayor and JP Presidium Member Mostafizur Rahman threatened to resign from the party demanding the reinstatement of GM Quader. – Staff Reporter
