JP doesn’t support any Gazipur polls candidate

In the wake of claims by both the ruling party and opposition-backed mayoral runners in Gazipur City Corporation polls of enjoying the support of HM Ershad, the party on Wednesday categorically said it did not extend support to anyone. “Jatiya Party didn’t extend support to any candidate. The media report of giving Jatiya Party’s support to a particular candidate is not true at all,” said a party press release.
As there is no candidate backed by the party in the polls, it said the leaders, activists and supporters of JP will vote for the mayoral candidates of their own choice.
“No one have the right to extend Jatiya Party’s support to any candidate without the directives of the centre (party high command),” the release added.
Referring to the meetings of both the AL-backed candidate Ajmat Ullah Khan and BNP-backed mayoral runner MA Mannan with Ershad, it said both of them met Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad and sought his blessings. “The party chairman gave them blessings, and whished them best of luck, but he didn’t give support to any of them.”
“I came to Jatiya Party chairman, who is like my political mentor, to have his blessings. He gave me both blessings and moral support,” Mannan told reporters emerging from Ershad’s Baridhara residence after a meeting on Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday, Ajmat Ullah met Ershad and sought his support and blessings for winning the mayoral race slated for July 6. – UNB
