JS body for use of Ansar VDPs to resist ‘terrorism’

DHAKA – Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday recommended utilising of Ansar and Village Defense Party (VDP) along with police and elite force Rapid Action Battalion to resist terrorism and militancy.
The parliamentary watchdog also suggested all concerned including the law enforcing agencies to remain alert about intensifying the activities of militant organizations.
The standing committee made the recommendations at a meeting of the committee at Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Mohammad Sayedul Haque in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, the committee chairman said movement of the opposition is usual at the last fag of the government’s tenure but the activities of Jamaat-Shibir and militant organizations were intensified in the name of movement. “That’s why all concerned including law enforcing agencies have been asked to remain alert to this regard,” he added.
Sayedul Haque said the government is very successful to resist militants there is no question about the sincerity of police.
He however, observed that if police are remained more sincere Jamaat-Shibir activities cannot gain momentum and the evil effort of militant organisaitons would be stopped.
The committee chief hoped that dependable information about militants could be collected by the members of Ansar and VDP as they work as grass roots level. “They have to be utilized in resisting terrorism and militancy,” he added.
He said the meeting also recommended giving approval to four new battalions of Ansar and VDP.
The meeting was informed that police are ready to resist militants and they have already started operations against them.
A proposal to provide financial support to 670 Ansar-VDP myrtars family members was place before the meeting.
