JS security beefed up fearing trouble

The security of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban has been beefed up in apprehension of sabotage ahead of the next general election scheduled on January 5, according to Parliament sources said.“The law enforcing agencies have been put on alert in and around the Sangsad Bhaban complex. Restriction has been imposed on the entry into the Sangsad Bhaban building,” said a senior official of Parliament Secretariat.
He said question was raised in different times on the security of the Parliament.
The official mentioned that the security committee on Parliament headed by Deputy Speaker Col (Retd) Shawkat Ali had made an 11-point recommendation on enhancing the security of Sangsad.  He, however, said no recommendation was implemented even at the fag end of the tenure of Ninth Parliament.
Sources said concerns have been raised on the security of Parliament following the announcement of the schedule for the 10th National Parliamentary election.
Different intelligent agencies have expressed their concern over possibilities of sabotage attack on Parliament Bhaban. The status of security has been raised centering the Sangsad Bhaban following the report, sources added.
The security alert sprawling Parliament complex at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar has been visible since Wednesday. Special alert has been imposed during the issue of passage for guests and visitors. In some case, the visitors had to go through physical searches at the entry point of Sangsad Bahban. Some officials have stopped issuing passage to avoid security hassles.
The number of security guard at the entry points of Parliament Bhaban has been increased and the monitoring through CCTV has been strengthened, sources said.
A security official said the security of Parliament Bhaban has been enhanced following rising violence across the country centering the opposition’s siege programme which begun on Tuesday,
There is no security weakness at this movement even then we are alert against possibility of attacks, he said. – Staff Reporter
