Charge-sheet against 13 in CPB meeting blast cases

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday submitted two charge sheets against 13 persons including Harkatul Zihad leader Mufti Abdul Hannan in connection with the bomb attack on a rally of CPB in 2001.On Wednesday afternoon, CID Police Inspector Mrinal Kanti Saha submitted a charge sheet for killing under the Penal Code while the other charge sheet was submitted under the Explosive Substances Act for bomb explosion.
Other 12 accused persons are Mufti Moin Uddin Shaikh, Arif Hasan Sumon, Moulana Sabbir Ahmad, Shaokot Osman alias Shaikh Farid, Md Moshiur
Rahman, Zahangir Alam Badr, Mohibul Muttakin, Aminul Morsalin, Mufti Abdul Hai, Mufti Shafiqur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam Miraj and Nur Islam.
Of the accused six including Mufti Hannan are in the jail. Other five accused
Are Mufti Moin Uddin, Arif Hasan Sumon, Moulana Sabbir, Shaikh Farid and Moshiur Rahman. Of them Mufti Moin Uddin Shaikh made confessional statement admitting his involvement in the incident under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Other seven accused are on the run.
Meanwhile, Mashiur Rahman made confessional statement in another case, when he had admitted his involvement in the incident of this case. Depending on his confessional statement Mufti Hannan and others were made accused in the cases.
After investigation 30 persons were relieved of the charges. One hundred seven persons were made witnesses in the case.
On January 20, 2001, five persons were killed and 20 others were injured in the bomb attack on a rally of Bangladesh Communist Party (CPB) at Paltan Maidan. President of the party Monjurul Ahsan Khan filed the case on the same day with Motijheel Police Station in the capital. –  Court Correspondent
