The session of the Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) will resume at on Tuesday after a five-day recess with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury in the chair.
The business advisory committee and the parliamentary affairs committee are likely to be formed on the day.
According to rules of procedures, the business advisory committee will be formed headed by Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury while parliamentary affairs committee by Chief Whip ASM Firoz.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Rawshan Ershad and senior lawmakers will be the members of the committee.
The business advisory committee which is likely to be formed today will decide the duration of the session within a day or two.
As part of the day’s agenda, thanks-giving motion on the address of the President will also be moved in the House, according to Parliament Secretariat sources.
Chief whip ASM Firoz will move the thanks-giving motion on President Abdul Hamid’s address at the inaugural session of Parliament. General discussion will take place on the thanks-giving motion for a long time.
The journey of maiden session of new Parliament began on January 29 following the January 5 general election which was boycotted by ruling party’s main rival BNP and its allies.
For the first time, there is no representation of BNP and Jamaat in the Parliament since the return of the parliamentary democracy in the country in 1991.
A bill titled Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Bill, 2013 has been submitted before the Parliament Secretariat to place before the House.
Talking to reporters, Minister for Information Hasanul Haq Inu on Monday said he is likely to place the bill aiming to provide financial assistance to the insolvent journalists in Parliament on February 5. – Staff Reporter
