JSD leader beaten to death in Barisal, two AL leaders held

Samajtantrik Dal, was tortured and beaten by a group led by
Solia-Bakpur union Awami League vice president Abdus Salam alias Gachh
Salam near Chakhar bus stand of the upazila and succumbed to his
injuries at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital on Friday
night.
Golam Sarwar, officer in charge of Banaripara police station, said
Syed Tarikul Islam, brother of the victim, lodged a case in this
connection naming 13 accused including the AL leader.
The body was sent to SBMCH morgue for autopsy and police arrested AL
leader Abdus Salam and his associate Md. Jasim at night, OC Banaripara
PS said.
Local and police sources said Kabir and Salam had old rivalries and
both engaged in scuffle in front of Chakhar Palli Bidyut Office in on
Friday morning. Kabir left his house on Friday noon for performing
Juma Prayer and a group led by Salam attacked Kabir on the way in
front of Chowkidar Bari on Guachitra-Chakhar road.
The attackers abducting Kabir brought him to an abandoned house near
Agrani Bank Chakhar Branch and severely tortured him branding him as a
hijacker and left the place leaving him in critical condition.
Hearing the incident Sub Inspector Sanjib Chandra Shil and Assistant
Sub Inspector Abdul Hye of Banaripara PS rushed and after rescuing
Kabir brought him to upazila health complex. Attending physician Dr.
Jatin Chandra Roy referred Kabir to Barisal SBMCH where Kabir
succumbed to his injuries at night.
Tarikul, brother of the victim and complainant of the case, alleged
Kabir always protested the criminal activities led by Salam like
grabbing public and private properties including grabbing lands of
Chakhar Government College, roadside trees, toll collection from the
transport vehicles.
Before death Kabir named Syed Mojibul Islam Tuku, upazila AL
organizing secretary and Chakhar union parishad chairman, Solia-Bakpur
union AL vice president Abdus Salam, his son former BCL leader Abul
Kalam, nephew wood log trader Ranju, claimed Tarikul.
Leaders of upazila and district JSD, local AL lawmaker Monirul Islam
Moni, information minister Hasanul Haque Inu, condemning the killing
asked immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers.
AKM Ehsan Ullah, Barisal district police superintendent, visiting the
spot said police already arrested two and continued drives to arrest
other accused in killing the JSD leader Kabir. -Our Correspondent
