Savar (Dhaka), March 7 – The Socialist Students’ Front (SSF), Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit, yesterday formed a human chain on the campus, protesting ongoing harassment on the students in JU dormitories.Some 25 activists of the left-leaning organization took position in front of the old registrar building at around 11:00am.
From the program, the agitators urged the concerned authority to take effective step to abolish ragging and to bring the offenders to justice.
Susmita Moriom, president of JU SSF unit, said: ‘The administration seeks to keep in power by appeasing the ruling class. That’s why they take no action against the guilty’.
Calling the administration to take the side of the students, she said: ‘Stand for the truth, students will remain by you’.
The meeting was conducted by Md. Dider, general secretary of JU SSF unit. Organizing secretary Motiur Rahman Shovon, finance sec Sumaiya Ferdous, asst. member Shahadat Noman and Abdul Mannan spoke among others. – JU Correspondent
