Juba League leader expelled as rebel candidate

Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, youth front of rulling Bangladesh Awami League,  on  Thursday evening expelled Barisal City Jubo League Joint Convener and Mayor candidate Mahmudul Hoque Khan Mamun, alias Khan Mamun, from the organization.The action against Mamun was taken  for contesting against 14-party alliance backed  Mayor candidate, city AL president and outgoing Mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron, said Kazi Anisur Rahman,office secretary of BAJL .
The decision was taken after a meeting of city Jubo League at conference room of a hotel in Barisal presided over by city BAJL
convener Nizamul Islam Nizam.
The meeting was attended by Muhammad Omar Faruk Chowdhury, chairman,Mahbubur Rahman, Ataur Rahman, presidium members, Subrata Paul, joint secretary, Asadul Huq Asad, Faruk Hasan Tuhin, joint secretaries, Kazi
Anisur Rahman, office secretary, Suvash Chandra Haoladar, treasurer and local leaders of BAJL.
The BAJL leaders opined that Mamun contesting BCC election for Mayor post against Hiron ignoring direction of BAJL leaders  violated the discipline of the organization and so expelled from all posts including primary membership.
Same action would be taken against those who will support Mamun or work for him, the BAJL office secreatry cautioned.
Mamun said local government election is non-political and minimum show notice required for expulsion as per constitution of any organization.
I have withdrawn my candidature in second BCC election as per request from the organization assuring supporting me in third BCC election. I am campaigning for Mayoral post for third BCC election since then. So I have not violated any discipline of the organization, rather following their previous decision and will continue my participation in mayoral race.
Another reports adds:Jatiya Party (Ershad) on Thursday afternoon formally announced their support to Shawkat Hossain Hiron, city AL president, outgoing Mayor and 14-party alliance backed Mayor Candidate for third election of Barisal City Corporation.
JP from their divisional councilors meeting held at Barisal Club auditorium declared this support in presence of Hiron.
The meeting was presided over by Prof. Mohsin Ul Islam Habul, organizing secretary and district president, and attended by ABM Ruhul Amin Howladar, secretary general and lawmaker, Ratna Amin, Golam Kibria Tipu, lawmakers, Mostafa Jamal Haider, presidium member and other leaders of JP.
Hiron was former district JP joint secretary and city JP president before joining in AL in 1996.
JP Secretary General said although local government elections are to be non-political so direct involvement of JP leaders and activists are not necessary. However as JP still under 14-party alliance, so decided to support alliance backed candidates in upcoming city corporation elections.
JP leaders jointly raising their and Hiron’s hands announcing support to him introduced to JP leaders, activists with him and called to cast vote in support of 14-party alliance backed Mayor and councilor candidates.
