Kader Siddiqui out of by-poll contest

The High Court has dismissed a petition by Kader Siddiqui challenging a decision of the Election Commission (EC) on cancellation of his candidature for Tangail-8 by election.
The bench of Justices Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Zafar Ahmed issued the order on Tuesday.
The EC on Mar 2 rejected an appeal by the chief of Krishak Sramik Janata League, challenging the commission’s decision to cancel his candidature on charges of loan default.The Tangail-8 constituency (Basail-Sakhipur) fell vacant after Awami League MP Shawkat Momen Shahjahan died of heart attack on Jan 20.
His son Anupam Shahjahan is the Awami League aspirant in the polls scheduled for Mar 29.
Siddiqui, who boycotted the Jan 5 national election, had submitted his nominations to contest the by-poll.
But the returning officer cancelled his nomination on Feb 26 for defaulting on repayment of loans.
The EC also rejected the appeals of HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party aspirant Kazi Ashraf Siddiqui and ruling Awami League’s ‘rebel’ candidate Abu Syed Mia.-bdnews24.com
