Kamaruzzaman filing review petition, no execution till time: Counsel

Jamaat leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, sentenced to death for war crimes, will file review petition before the Supreme Court with the 15 days time limit to reconsider his conviction, according to his lawyer.
“We are yet to receive the certified copy of the full verdict of the Appellate Division on his death sentence. According to law, the count down of 15 days will begin after receiving the certified copy,” said Advocate Tajul Islam, a counsel of Kamaruzzaman. He said that there is no scope to execute Kamaruzzaman even an hour before 15 days as they have already served notice to the government that the Jamaat leader will file review petition before the apex court.
Tajul Islam said the hearing will take place after filing of review petition and then the apex court would give its judgement to it.
If the review petition is rejected he would get an opportunity to seek mercy from the President of the country, he said.
The lawyer said on completion of all the procedures he would be executed no less than 21 day or not more than 27 days.
He said Kamaruzzaman will be allowed 15 days even he does not file review petition. – Staff Reporter
