Kazi Zafar blasts govt for denying voting rights in JP council rocked by explosion

At least five people were injured when unidentified miscreants hurled five home made crude bombs in side the auditorium at the National

Press Club immediate after inauguration the special council of Jatiya Party (Zafar) in the city on Friday afternoon.
The Juba Sanghati, a youth forum of JP, had announced a programme to hold a rally in front of the National Press Club on Thursday to foil
the Zafar’s council. After the cracker blasts some youths pelted brickbats at the Press Club building, some press club members said.
Kazi Zafar announced for holding a special council immediate after his expulsion from JP by party Chairman HM Ershad on November 28.
However, the bombs were exploded leaving five injuries in presence of Kazi Zafar Ahmad when he was in the dais.
The injured persons were identified as Bijoy Sarkar of Tongi, Billal Hossain of Munshiganj, Abdul Matin Talukdar of Munshiganj, Ershad
Ahmed of Jatiya Juba Sanghati leader of Mirpur and Shapan Mahmud of Kuril in Dhaka and the injured persons were admitted to Dhaka Medical
College and Hospital for treatment.
Kazi Zafar Ahmed, chairman of JP, Dr AQM Badruddouza Chowdhury, president of Bikalpa Dhara, Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbubur Rahman, standing
committee member of BNP, ASM Abdur Rob, president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and Kader Siddiky, president of Bangladesh Krishak
Sramik Janata League strongly condemned the attack.
The leaders of different political organisation those who were attended the council alleged that the government elements were
involved in the explosion.
Expressing solidarity of the BNP-led 18 party movement, Kazi Zafar Ahmad said, they will be in the streets until the government met their
demands for holding a free, fair and credible election under a non-party caretaker government.
He announced the expulsion of HM Ershad from JP formally which decided by the councilors.
At least 152 innocent people have sacrificed their lives since the Election Commission announced its schedule, Kazi Zafar said, adding,
“the government has deprived about five crore people of their voting rights by electing 157 candidates unopposed. This government will be
identified as mad government in the history of Bangladesh.”
Dr AQM Badruddouza Chowdhury, the former President of Bangladesh termed the Prime Minister’s Thursday’s remark on holding 11th
parliamentary polls by dissolving 10th parliament as ‘bait’.
“I am sure that the main opposition BNP would not accept this bait. I will leave the politics, if the BNP accept PM’s bait,” he said.
The Prime Minister doesn’t understand the language of democracy, Chowdhury said, adding, “the government has robed the voting rights of
the people by electing candidates unopposed. The people won’t accept such elections. There is no instance in the world that the government
has not fulfilled a single demand placed by the opposition.”
Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbubur Rahman said, the whole nation is now insecured as the government has failed to ensure the security of the people. The
BNP leader urged the government for holding a fair election under a non-party government.
Bangabir Kader Siddique said, the government has gone bankrupt for both politically and on grounds of principle. “The people of the
country don’t want the government of Sheikh Hasina now,” he added.
Criticising the admission of physically fit HM Ershad at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), he said, the incident has tarnished the image
of the Army.
“Parliamentary seats are being doled out like the relief materials.
The poll results has been leaked out before holding the elections like a woman giving birth to a child out of wedlock,” ASM Abdur Rob said.
The spirit of the War of Liberation is not for protecting the interest of others, he said, adding, “the elections are now being held to
protect an interest of a vested group.”
He alleged that the government has turned the whole nation like a ‘prison’ and the country can’t run such a way.
Among others, Secretary General of JP Golam Mosih, founder of Gonoshasthya Kendra, Dr Zafar Ullah Chowdhury, Presidium Members of JP
Dr TIM Fazle Rabbi, Brig Gen (Retd) Kazi Mahmudul Hasan, SMM Alam, HM Golam Reza and Nwab Ali Abbas Khan also spoke on the occasion.
A new central committee of JP comprising 89 members and including Kazi Zafar Ahmad as Chairman and Golam Mosih as Secretary General was
formed in the council session. A total of 27 presidium members are included in the committee. – Staff Reporter
