College student Khadija attacker charged with attempted murder

Suspect Badrul Alam lashed out against his victim, Sylhet college student Khadiza Begum Nargis, outside the court conducting his trial for attempted murder.The former Chhatra League leader told reporters Khadiza was a ‘traitor, a hypocrite and a fraud’ as he was being brought to court on Sunday.“Let Khadiza be blessed, and let me hang,” he said.Fifteen depositions were heard at the court of Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Hero, said Additional Public Prosecutor Mahfuzur Rahman.

On Dec 5 the court heard the testimony of 17 witnesses. So far the court has taken 32 depositions.The court session began with the magistrate hearing the suspect’s confession under Section 164 at the judge’s chambers, said prosecutor Mahfuzur.The court then heard the testimony of investigation official Harunur Rashid, Khadiza’s father Masuk Miah and 13 others until the hearing came to a close at 2:30pm.The court has set Dec 15 as the next day for depositions.Badrul was caught by locals just after he attacked Khadiza with a machete.An accounting student at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Badrul was removed as vice-president of the university’s Chhatra League unit after the attack.
