Khaleda for step against contemptuous utterance

Dhaka, 21 Jan – BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday said people are waiting to see what steps the judiciary takes after a junior minister made a “contemptuous” comment on the under-trial cases filed against her.She made the remarks in a tweet message following state minister for LGRD Mashiur Rahman Ranga’s remark about her conviction.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a tweet message yesterday sought to know from the Chief Justice whether statement of a state minister on a subjudice matter was not tantamount to the contempt of court.
“Newspapers carried a report on Friday that a state minister who is not elected said “Khaleda Zia has to go to jail within 15 days. Was it not contempt of court to announce verdict on a sub-judice matter?,” she questioned the CJ in her tweet message.
The former premier tweeted this two days after state minister for Local Government Moshiur Rahman Ranga at a function in Cox’s Bazar on Friday reportedly said that Khaleda Zia has to go to jail within.
Khaleda further said the people are vigilant to the matter as to what type of measures is being taken by the Chief Justice to protect the independence of the judiciary.
The statement of the state minister of Khaleda has created wide criticism in the political arena and social media.
The state minister allegedly made the statement when a Dhaka court on Thursday concluded Khaleda’s argument hearing in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case and fixed January 23, 24, 25 to hear the arguments of the rest of the accused-Sarfuddin Ahmed and Kazi Salimul Huq. – Staff Reporter
