Opposition BNP-led 18-party called off the May 2 hartal in response to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and for the sake of Savar tragedy.Opposition leader in the Parliament Khaleda Zia, also BNP chairperson, made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.
In the statement, Khaleda Zia said, “We are calling off the hartal for the sake of humanity and to give opportunity to the countrymen to be united during Savar tragedy in response to the call of the premier.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged Khaleda Zia to call off hartal for undisrupted rescue operation in Savar Rana Plaza collapse where at least 400 RMG workers had been found dead.
