Khaleda Zia to be tried as ‘killer’: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Tuesday BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia would have to stand for trial as a “killer” for killing innocent people for her personal
interest.
The PM told Parliament Khaleda’s movement is not for any national issue or public welfare, rather she is trying to save war criminals and herself from the graft cases and protect her spoilt son involved in killing, money laundering and corruption,” she said.
Taking part in an unscheduled discussion on the present spate of violence and terrorism resulted in from the blockade, Sheikh Hasina said the BNP chief has been killing people under the cover of a movement for her personal interests. “Her trial would be held the way a killer faces trial” she said.Earlier, Begum Raushan Ershad initiated the discussion drawing attention of the House towards the wholesale killing, anarchy and destructive acts unleashed across the country by the BNP-led alliance.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the BNP-led 20-party alliance went on rampage by killing innocent people including kids side by side with spreading anarchy and other forms of destructive acts in the name of a so-called movement. “The whole country is now worn out as BNP and its allies are infusing venom into the arteries and veins of our national politics,” she said.
In her speech, the Prime Minister showed to the lawmakers the horrific photographs of the victims, who were mercilessly killed during the blockades and hartals over the last couple of days.
In the greater interest of protecting democracy and humanity from the wrath of BNP and its allies, she urged the countrymen to form anti-terrorism and anti- militancy committees in each locality to resist the destructive acts of these parties.
“I call upon all of you to hand over such terrorists and militants to the law enforces. We cannot allow the country to be a den of terrorists and militants again. For this, we want active cooperation of the countrymen,” she said.
The Prime Minister said Awami League also staged movement in the past by taking the people with it, but not the way the BNP-Jamaat is doing now. “BNP-Jamaat’s movement means kill the people anyway,” she said.
The Prime Minister said BNP did a mistake by not participating in the January 5 polls and it must pay for that blunder. “But why the people would pay for the BNP’s mistake,” she posed a question.
Sheikh Hasina said BNP had tried to take over the country’s power through an unconstitutional way by boycotting the polls, but failed to resist the elections. “Forty percent votes were cast in that election,” she said.
Ruling out again the BNP’s demand for midterm polls, the Prime Minister asked BNP to get ready for the next election. “Next election would be held on time and for this BNP should take preparation,” she said. – BSS
