Khaleda’s adviser arrested after rally in Sylhet

Sylhet, Oct 24 – An hour after the maiden rally of Jatiya Oikya Front, Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser Khandaker Abdul Muktadir here on Wednesday. A team of DB police picked Muktadir up from in front of Rose Valley Hotel in the city around 6:30 pm as he went there to meet the party’s senior leaders, said Sylhet unit BNP general secretary Ali Ahmed.
He claimed that their party’s around 50 other leaders and activists were also arrested from different parts of Sylhet district.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner Sanjoy Sarkar confirmed the arrest of Muktadir.
Meanwhile, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir strongly condemned the arrest and demanded Muktadir’s immediate release.
He alleged that police arrested their party’s many leaders and activists here over the last two days.
“Police also raided the houses of our leaders and activists and obstructed them from joining the rally. The arrest of Abdul Muktadir after a peaceful rally has proved that the government wants to hang onto power by resorting to repressive acts,” the BNP leader said. – UNB
