Khaleda’s bail expended in Zia Orphanage case

Dhaka, Oct 8 – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court yesterday extended till October 11 its earlier order that granted bail to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order following a prayer moved by Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Advocate Abdur Rezak Khan seeking an extension of her bail.
Meanwhile, yesterday, the bench continued for the 20th day of the hearing on the appeal filed by Khaleda Zia challenging the trial court verdict that sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the same graft the case
The court also fixed 10:30 am yesterday for resuming the hearing on the appeal, Anti-Corruption Commission’s lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told newsmen.
On March 12, the High Court granted four months’ bail to Khaleda Zia in the case filed by the ACC.
The four-month bail order expired on July 12. Since then, the High Court bench extended the bail order seven times so far.
Advocate Abdur Rezak Khan submitted arguments for Khaleda Zia before the High Court yesterday.
Khaleda Zia has been in the prison after being sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by the Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka on February 8 in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. – Special Correspondent
