Khaleda’s bail in Zia Charitable Trust graft case extended

Dhaka, July 24 – A Dhaka court onTuesday extended the bail of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia until July 31 in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case. Judge Dr Md Akteruzzaman of Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka passed the order after hearing.
Earlier, Advocate Zainul Abedin moved the bail petition on behalf of Khaleda Zia, as she was ill in the prison. She was not produced before the court. The day was earlier fixed for hearing argument in the case.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Tejgaon Model Police Station on August 8, 2011 accusing Khaleda Zia and three others of abusing power to raise funds for the trust from unknown sources.
The other three accused persons are Harris Chowdhury, former political secretary of the then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Ziaul Islam Munna, Assistant Private Secretary (APS) to Harris and Monirul Islam Khan, APS to former Dhaka city mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka.
It has been gathered that Khaleda Zia is now accused in over 34 cases. She is currently serving a five-year prison term in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. – Special Correspondent
