An officer at the Khilkhet Police Station said they could not reach Hossain.
“He left his official mobile at the police station and his personal number is switched off,” said the official, who preferred anonymity.
Hossain was not at his Dhaka residence which was found locked from outside.
The official said: “We have certain reasons to believe that Shamim Hossain had left for the USA with his family without informing anyone.”
When approached, Khilkhet police’s acting OC KM Ashrafuddin, an Inspector, said he was unaware whether Hossain had gone to the US. He had left the police station saying he was ill.
