Khoka sent to jail in Shahbagh bus torching case

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent BNP Vice-Chairman and Dhaka City BNP convener Sadeque Hossain Khoka to jail after a two-day remand in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station of the city in connection with an arson attack on a bus at Shahbah on November 28.Magistrate Atiqur Rahman of Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the order in his crowded courtroom after police produced Khoka to his court seeking a 10-day’s fresh remand in another case filed with Tejgaon Police Station for burning a bus. The court allowed the police to interrogate Khoka at the jail gate, if necessary within 10 days.
Earlier, on December 5, BNP leader Khoka was placed on a two-day remand in a case filed in connection with an arson attack on a passenger bus that left three dead and 16 others burnt.
He was shown arrested in two cases, one of which was filed for arson attack on a bus in Shahbagh area and the other was filed with Ramna Police Station also for arson attack on a bus in Malibagh area in the city on November 30.
In the other case, the same court passed order on December 5 to send Khoka to jail rejecting his bail petition and Prosecution’s remand plea.
Shahbagh Police filed the case against BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul, Sadeque Hossain Khoka and 14 other senior BNP leaders. While, Ramna Police filed a murder case against 15 BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul, Mirza Abbas, Salahuddin Ahmed, Barkatullah Bulu and Sadeque Hossain Khoka in connection with the incident at Malibagh, that left a man dead and three injured.
The defence lawyers, including Advocates Sanaullah Miah and Masud Ahmed Talukder while opposing the remand plea seeking Khoka’s bail told the court, Khoka was quite ignorant about the two arson attacks. Besides, his name was not included in the First Information Reports of the cases. He was implicated in the cases to take political revenge against him amid anti-Government political agitation of the BNP-led 18-party alliance for a poll-time non-party caretaker Government, they added.
On Wednesday night, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and detectives arrested BNP Vice-President and also the convener of Dhaka city BNP from a house at Uttara Sector-4 in the capital.   – Court Correspondent
