Police on Wednesday arrested a member of an alleged international gang
of kidnappers from the city’s Kazi Elias area. Arrested Sohel Ali, 27,
son of Hazi Altaf Ali of Jiapur village under Chhatak upazia of
Sunamganj district, is being interrogated by Detective Branch (DB) of
police.
DB police arrested Sohel from a bus counter of SA Paribahan in Kazi
Elias area of Sylhet this noon, when he came to collect Tk one lakh,
which was sent to him as ransom for releasing one Zakir from their
custody, police said.
Sohel along with other members of their gang kidnapped Zakir from
Tangail district in the name of sending him to Spain and took Tk 8
lakh from him for doing so. They later sent Zakir and some others to
Iran instead of Spain and resorted to inhuman torture on them for
ransom.
Sohel’s elder brother Mohoram Ali, who is now residing in Iran, is the
ringleader of the gang.
