The family members of district unit Swechchasebak League general secretary Sazzad Hossain Sabuj alleged that members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) picked Sabuj up from Mawna in Gazipur early on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference at Kushtia Press Club in the morning, Sabuj’s mother, Shaheda Khatun, claimed that plainclothes men, who introduced themselves as Rab members, detained her son along with Swechchasebak League president Akhtaruzzaman Labu around 4:45am from Dream Square Resort at Mawna, Gazipur.
The plainclothes men also picked the resort owner up, said Shaheda.
Contacting the Rab, the family members did not get any information about the arrest, she added.
Operation manager of Dream Square Resort Shimul alleged that the Rab members entered the resort after breaking the grill of the main gate in the early morning and tied up the guard.
They first arrested resort owner Moniruzzaman and then Labu and Sabuj.
Sabuj’s wife Jannatul Ferdous Jinia, father Sheikh Kaiser Hossain and his two children were present at the press briefing.
Earlier on August 15, a local Jubo League activist, another Sabuj, was killed and five others sustained bullet injuries during a clash between two groups of Awami League supporters over joining a rally on the national mourning day in Kushtia.
A case was filed with Kushtia Model Police station against 20 Swechchi.
