Law on the cards to try physicians for wrongs: Nasim

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim on Monday said a new law will be enacted to try the accused doctors.
“We’re working for formulating a new law. If any physician is found guilty of any wrongdoings or any allegation is found against him, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) will try them under the new law,” he said while talking to reporters at his office
Nasim said he had talks with authorities concerned in this regard and they will sit again on Tuesday. “The draft of the law will be finalised after the meeting.”He said if aggrieved, patients can lodge their complaints against any physician with the BMDC which will take action against the physician concerned after investigation. “The BMDC may cancel his/her medical certificate.”
Terming regretful the strike enforced by physicians in Rajshahi, the minister said, “It’s not acceptable as they could have lodged complaint and given deadline before going for the strike. But they didn’t do that. They went on the work abstention, resulting in the sufferings of patients.”
Medical services at public and private hospitals and clinics in Rajshahi city came to a halt as doctors had gone on an indefinite strike on Friday morning protesting a court order sending Dr Samiul Haque Shimul, Shimu, also the owner of a clinic, to jail. – UNB
