A Dhaka court on Thursday directed the prosecution to quiz a lawyer at the jail gate in a case filed in connection with his questioned marriage with a female lawyer and identification of the father of her baby.
Dhaka’s Senior Judicial Magistrate Masud Parvez gave the order after hearing on a two-day remand plea against accused lawyer Nazrul Islam Bhuiyan. Complainant Advocate Tajeda Begum was standing in the crowded courtroom with the baby during the hearing.Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Sub-Inspector Shahen Shah appraised the court of different phases of his inquiry and the necessity of placing the accused on remand.
On March 11, on behalf of the National Forensic DNA Profiling Laboratory (NEDPL), Professor Dr Sharif Akhteruzzaman submitted the DNA report to the court that says Nazrul Islam is the father of the baby Samia Islam. She was born to Tajeda Begum on September 23, last year. However, the marriage of the couple could not be registered so far due to the non-cooperation of the accused. – Court Correspondent
