LP gas price hike irks users in Khulna

Some 60,000 Liquefied Petroleum (LP) gas users in Khulna region have
expressed grave concern over the hike in its price just ahead of
Ramadan.
The per cylinder LP gas price was raised by Tk 50 on Monday on the
pretext of its price hike on international market, sources at the
local market said.
As per the increased rate, the gas users will have to buy one cylinder
of LP gas at Tk 1420 against Tk 1370 two days back.
According to the sources, all the private LP gas companies have
already started selling gas cylinders at the increased rate.  More
worrying is that the supply of government LP gas now remained halted,
adding to the anxieties of the users.
Those who used to get gas at a fair price of Tk 750 per cylinder will
have to suffer more during the holy month of Ramadan.
The users said the prices of essential items are already escalating
ahead of Ramadan and it has become very difficult for the common man
to manage the rising cost of living.
The increased price of LP gas will be an additional burden on the
low-income group people.  Talking to the UNB correspondent, some LP
gas traders attributed the present price hike of gas to its short
supply against the high demand in the region, a logic turned down by
the gas users.
The gas users alleged that the authorities concerned give a blind eye
to whimsical decisions of the private gas companies. -UNB, Khulna
