Charge framing against 148 opposition leaders Aug 20

A Dhaka court on Tuesday fixed August 20 for hearing on charge framing against 148 opposition leader and activists accused of assaulting police, creating panic and aranchy among people near BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on March 11 last. Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order Tuesday following a petition of the accused seeking time.
Earlier on June 6, the court fixed July 2 for hearing on charge framing against the opposition men in the case filed under the Speedy Trail Act.
On March 24, Sub-Inspector of Paltan Thana Mahbubul Hasan submitted the charge sheet to the CMM Court.
The charge sheet also recommended acquitting six people of the case as no evidence was found against them.
On March 20, the court placed 151 opposition leaders and activists on remand for police interrogation.
On March 11, police arrested 200 BNP men, including top leaders during a two-hour raid at party’s central office in city for their alleged involvement in keeping bombs at their office, attacking police and vandalism.
