Sirajganj, Feb 19 (UNB) – A rarely seen bird species ‘Madan Tak’ (Lesser Adjutant Stork) was rescued from Gachbari village in Sayedabad union of Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning.
Members of ‘Bird Safety House’, an environmental organization, rescued the bird after being informed by locals.
Earlier on Saturday, villagers spotted two Madan Tak birds on a tree in the village and caught one of those, said Sayedabad Union Parishad (UP) chairman Nabidul Islam.
“Since then the bird was kept at my house and being fed with fishes,” he added.
Mamun Biswas, president of the Bird Safety House, said that the bird will be handed over to Wild Life Management & Nature Conservation Division in Rajshahi.
“We had a conversation with Wildlife Inspector Jahangir Kabir of the conservation authority regarding the handing over of the bird,” he added.
He also said that after providing initial treatment by the wildlife management and nature conservation department, the bird will be released to the Sundarbans.
Madan Tak are generally found around wetlands feeding mainly on fish, frogs, reptiles, large invertebrates, rodents, small mammals and rarely also on carrion.
