Magura election office attacked

The election office in Magura was attacked on Sunday, leaving at least five people, including four policemen, injured.A band of up to 40 youths started pelting the office with stones and improvised bombs around 7pm, said Sub-Inspector Humayun Kabir.
The rowdy attackers, he said, vandalised the office’s gates and windows on the second day of the Opposition’s 72-hour blockade across Bangladesh.
Constable ‘Elahi’, ‘Tariquzzaman’, ‘Mostofa’, Sub-Inspector Kabir and a yet unidentified election office staff were injured in the attack.
They have been given first aid.
Police fired eight rounds in the air to drive away the attackers, said Kabir.
Election offices in various districts including Chittagong have been attacked during the Opposition’s agitation programme.
Led by the BNP, the 18-Party alliance has rejected the schedule for the general elections slated for Jan 5 and called for the blockade programme.
At least 21 people have died in blockade-related violence since Nov 26. – bdnews24.com
