Maiden Senate meeting held at BRUR

The first ever Senate meeting of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) was held at its conference room in the administrative building here on Saturday afternoon.

Chairman of the Senate Committee of BRUR and its Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AKM Nurun Nabi presided over the meeting, a press release said today.

Member of the BRUR Senate, including Member of the Parliament (MP) from Rangpur-5 constituency HN Ashikur Rahman, MP from Lalmonirhat-1 constituency Md Motahar Hossain, MP from Gaibandha-3 constituency Mahbub Ara Gini, MP from reserved constituency (303) Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia, Registrar of BRUR Muhammad Ibrahim Kabir, attended the meeting.

After elaborate discussions, the Senate meeting decided to name the under-construction 10-storey residential hall for the female students of the university as “Sheikh Hasina Hall”.

The Senate meeting also changed names of “Dr Wazed Research Institute” of the university into “Dr Wazed Research and Training Institute” and Head of its all Department as Chairperson of the concerned Department.

The annual budget of Taka 33.64 crore for the 2016-2017 fiscal of BRUR was also announced in the maiden Senate meeting of the university.

The proposed annual budget of BRUR includes allocations of Taka 27.14 crore from the University Grants Commission and Taka 6.50 crore as own incomes of the university.

Taking part in the discussion, Senate Member HN Ashikur Rahman said Begum Rokeya University is a dream university for the people of Rangpur and the region as whole.

“The BRUR requires more developments,” he said, putting special emphasis on preparing a master plan towards the directions.

The Senate Members expressed their unequivocal views in the meeting for further conducting developments both in the academic as well as infrastructural sectors of the university, the press release added.
